What is registration of stay?

Registration of stay is the formal process of registering a tenant’s stay, residence, or accommodation with the competent authority where required by law, immigration status, or the applicable administrative procedure.

Why is registration of stay important?

Registration of stay may be necessary for legal compliance, proof of lawful residence, contact with public authorities, immigration procedures, and proper documentation of the tenant’s occupancy of the property.

Who is responsible for registration of stay?

Registration of stay is the tenant’s own responsibility. The tenant must make sure that the required registration is completed correctly, fully, and on time.

Should tenants wait for the landlord, agency, or anyone else to do this for them?

No. The tenant should treat registration of stay as a personal legal and administrative obligation and should verify directly with the competent authority what is required in their own case. ()

Do landlords handle the registration procedure?

No. Landlords do not handle or manage the registration procedure for the tenant. The tenant must personally take responsibility for the procedure, the deadline, and communication with the competent authority. The landlords can provide documents related to tenancy which tenants need for the registration of stay, such us notarized lease agreement or similar.

Can a host institution sometimes help?

Yes. In practice, a host institution such as a college, university, employer, or company may sometimes assist with administrative guidance or practical support. However, such assistance is not guaranteed and does not replace the tenant’s own responsibility to complete the registration correctly and on time.

Does signing a lease agreement automatically complete registration?

No. A signed lease agreement does not by itself mean that registration of stay has been completed.
